- Breathe through your nose — It helps slow things down and supports calm, steady breathing.
- Let the breath drop into your belly — Your stomach should gently rise as you inhale and fall as you exhale.
- Go at your own pace — If a pattern feels too long or intense, shorten it. Your breath, your rhythm.
- No strain, no force — Breathing should feel smooth and comfortable, not like a challenge.
- Consistency over perfection — A few minutes each day is more powerful than one long session.
- If you feel dizzy, pause — Return to natural breathing and take a break.
- Make it a small ritual — Same time, same place can help your body settle into it more easily.
Hi! We breathe between 20–25,000 breaths per day. We have between 5–7,000 thoughts per day. Consciously slow breathing is a gateway to slowing everything down.
The breathing practices shared in this app are all grounded in the same ethos: slow it down, breathe through the nose and breathe into the diaphragm. Those shifts alone begin to settle the nervous system. From there, the pattern you choose can gently steer the effect. Steady, even rhythms can bring balance and focus. Longer exhales can help you soften and unwind. More structured patterns, like box breathing, can give the mind something solid to hold onto when things feel a bit wobbly.
But here's the important bit; not all slow breathing feels the same for everyone. Some people find long breath holds uncomfortable, even a bit edgy. Others feel safer with structure. Some bodies melt with a long exhale, while others prefer an even, symmetrical rhythm.
The "best" method is going to be the one your body actually relaxes into. Think of them all as different flavours of herbal teas, or your favourite treat. It's nice to have a variety of things to try.
My thoughts; try what works well for you, and once you're settled with that, try something new… Maybe go a bit longer with any step of the iheh process (inhale-hold-exhale-hold).
I hope iheh helps you be able to slow down and connect with the absolute wonder that is your breath. Please share with anyone you think could benefit from it. And please consider a tip via Ko-fi or PayPal Me, or working with me 1-on-1 for breathwork coaching, or breathe-led life coaching.
Big Love, Breathe Easy.
